Things that make my day ありがとうの種

Like the Beatles' song , we get by with a little help from our friends, no?
Today  was exactly like that for me.
One friend gave me tons seeds for various plants.
Another friend comforted me with chocolate and muffin.

We talk and listen to each other.
Pat each other on the shoulder when needed.
Things our hearts need is always simple.
Thanks,
Good job,
maybe occasional Sorry,
Those simple words could make a huge difference to our hearts.
I know we adults have to say something that does not exactly reflect what we mean sometimes.
But I want to be a person who can say these words generously whenever I need to say.
I feel like we all have every single one of us have a special seed.
It could be your ambition. Could be your love. Something that makes you feel proud. Something that defines who you really are. Something that we will carry through all our lives.

Like the seeds my friends gave me today, these seeds in our hearts stay in the form of seeds if we don't seed them in the soil and water them.
The words of gratitude is like an essential nutrition for these seeds we have.
So, I say thanks my friends. You all are my treasure. Love ya.

witness 目撃

Just wanted to share a giggling moment in underground Manhattan.
Of course, good hearted Yuki told this gentleman that his bag was wide open.

miso soup summer 2010

There are  things I crave during summer:
Ice cream.
Cold white wine.
Spicy foods (or I could just say Thai and Korean food)
watermelon.

So when I enjoy my wine a bit much, it sometimes give me a hangover.
Miso soup would be a relief such times.
(There are scientific explanation on this, but I won't bother to write it here.)
But regular authentic miso soup is too boring.
It doesn't go so well with spicy foods I love to cook in summer.
So, I came up with this solution.

What we need:
Miso soup
(Katsuo broth would be perfect, but it doesn't matter.
for the veggie,
cabbage would be good for your digestion system.
Onion is good for headache.)
a clove of garlic (finely chopper)
ginger (about your thumb's nail) ( finely chopped)
hot chili pepper  as much as you crave for
Thai Basil (Optional)

Simply put all these herbs and spices into regular miso soup and it will become a hot summer miso soup.
It energizes you and relieves your hangover. It's also good when you are losing appetite in the hot weather. Try and let me know how you like it.
With this soup, I think we are all ready to party today.
Happy July 4th!

At the dawn

The other day, I was wide wake until the day broke.
There were two good things. One, I was off that day, and two, I got to see the sunrise.
Watching the sun slowly rise in the lukewarm summer weather, I suddenly remembered my late teenage days.
Those days, I often used to stay up all night, listening music, reading books, smoking cigarettes, sneaking out the house to take a walk, writing and being in love and heart broken most of the time.
And I used to make sure that another day broke and then go to sleep. So I was mostly asleep in class room.
Strangely, I just clearly remembered exactly how I was feeling those days.
Always feeling insecure about myself and frustrated with where I was,  rushing to somewhere, craving for something new.
Anyway, teenage days were quite tough and not so much fun  for me. I personally think it is tough for most kids.

Then I realized that it's been already 7 years or so since those days.
It just feels like a blink.

There are things that have changed, of course.
Now I feel much more secure though not quite perfect, embracing the way I am while still craving for something new, somewhere I have never been. And I can't even stand someone else's smoke now. Time just flies.
And it's amazing to find some part of me have not changed at all. Stubborn, romantic, eating chocolate as if it's my staple food. No, not just that. The very important core of me is still the same, which make me happy.

I know this sounds too sentimental but that moment I felt all these feelings in me, I just wished if I could talk to my teenage self from where I am now. Maybe with a Time Machine or something.
If I could talk to me back then, I would just wanna tell me that it's just gonna be fine.
Too sentimental? Well, blame Summer and the dawn, not me.

Summer

I don't know where to start. There seems so much to say.

Life is good. Of course it is as the summer is here.
I was off today so went to have my hair cut and walked around in Lower Manhattan.
I got a big vietnamese sandwich and coffee and took them with me to Manhattan Bridge.
Since it was a breezy, relatively cool weather, I decided to eat my lunch on the bridge.
(I don't know if it is lawful to sit on the sidewalk of the bridge so please don't tell anyone ;)
Feeling the trains passing by right behind me, and being stared by other pedestrians, I enjoyed my sandwich very much. Eating outside is the magical spice to make foods taste better.
It was a perfect day to wander around by myself.

As I love spontaneity, I enjoy going anywhere I want to as much as sharing the experience with good friends.
I might have said this somewhere already, but I believe that freedom and solitude are like Siamese Twins.
In summer, definitely freedom wins over solitude.

....But I feel like I have been saying this every summer.
Have I grown at all? Yes yes.
